The Magnolia at Frewsburg Rest Home June Look Back

The month of June has certainly flown by fast here at The Magnolia! We have been fortunate and blessed with many days of lovely weather, just in time for the beginning of a beautiful summer.

To kick off the start of the month, our staff hosted a “Spirit Week” with each day as a different theme. Our favorite day of the weekend happened to be Friday, which was coined as “Dress Like your Boss Day”! Several of our staff members put on their best khaki pants, button down shirts and their nicest ties to dress like our Administrator Troy! It was definitely a day filled with many laughs.

When we think of summertime, one of the first things we often think of are delicious and cold treats to keep us cool. We had a tasty afternoon enjoying root beer floats with the company of our good friends. Additionally, to celebrate the kick off of the summer season, we hosted a Summer Solstice Luau Party to get into the spirit! Our baking group provided us with pineapple upside down cake, along with refreshing strawberry daiquiri’s and ice cold non alcoholic beer! We each wore colorful leis, and felt so tropical with the mini cocktail umbrellas placed in our beverage of choice. It’s definitely for certain here, if there is a party – we will be there!

Father’s Day was a special day to celebrate, especially considering the men in our lives were unable to spend it with family like normal. Our men were treated to an assortment of delicious (and HUGE!) donuts from Farm Fresh Foods Bakery, along with a hot cup of coffee. Just like for Mother’s Day, we celebrated Father’s Day with a drive-by parade in front of The Magnolia to give families the opportunity to show their love and support for the father-figures in their lives. We had a great turn out, and each person that attended definitely left with a smile on their face.

In-between the entertainment and social gathers we enjoyed, we also had a wonderful time cultivating our garden and making new artistic pieces during our craft club and Paint with Ericka! Our garden has been growing strong, although there hasn’t been much rain. We have zucchini, tomatoes and peppers finally starting to bud, and a beautiful array of asters awaiting to bloom! We’re looking forward to utilizing our garden veggies in new and exciting ways in our baking group as well!

June was the official start to summertime fun, we have high hopes that July will turn out to be even better! For any questions or suggestions, please contact Ericka Johnson, Activity Coordinator at (716) 569-3095 ext. 6714, or by email at [email protected].
