The Magnolia at Frewsburg Rest Home Memory Care May Look Back
Wow – how fast approaching the year has gone by! With days filled with sunshine and spiking temperatures approaching, our residents at The Memory Care Households at the Magnolia are eager to see what the month of June will bring.
We began the month of May by celebrating Cinco de Mayo! Our Monday baking group in our household made tasty pinata cupcakes to share during our morning fiesta! We baked yellow cupcakes and cut a hole in the top after they were cooled, and filled them with M&M candies before topping it off with decorative frosting. Each bite brought a candy filled surprise to our mouths!
We honored ourselves as mothers and the mother-figures in our lives on Mother’s Day with a special tea party. We enjoyed homemade canoli’s, a side of strawberries, tea, coffee and juice alongside the company of our friends. This year’s Mother’s Day celebration was much different from prior years since we were unable to entertain guests. To make up for the turn of events, The Magnolia staff put together a special Mother’s Day Parade the following day. Although it was rainy and cold, the high spirits and warm welcome from seeing our family members brightened our day much more!
The break in sunnier days and warmer weather had us able to enjoy more outdoor activities. We often enjoyed the views of our backyard from the rocking chairs on the porch and a cold glass of lemonade in our hands. One of our favorite things to do is to enjoy each other’s company, whether it be watching the birds wiz by, or reminiscing about our younger years. Another change for us was the cancellation of Frewsburg’s yearly Memorial Day Parade and our own picnic in the pavilion. Although these have been very important staples in our celebrations, we definitely did our best in making the most of what we had. We had our Memorial Day picnic indoors together, where we all enjoyed our choice of burgers or cheese burgers, potato salad, veggies, and lemonade or iced tea. In the afternoon, the Activity Department served Red, White, and Blue ice cream sundaes – where seconds for more were definitely necessary!
As quickly as May arrived, June came swiftly approaching. We’re looking forward to being in able to spend more afternoons out in the sunshine, celebrating the coming of the First Day of Summer, and honoring our Father’s during our Father’s Day Donuts for Day celebration and parade.
