Field of Dreams Memory Care Household May Look Back

Boy what a wonderful May we’ve had here at the Memory Care Household. One thing for sure that’s lifting our spirits is this gorgeous warm weather we’re getting!

We kicked off the month with a festive Cinco de Mayo, with walking tacos and all the “fixings” as well as a fun Cinco de Mayo bingo.

Our ladies enjoyed a Mother’s Day Tea with assorted flavored teas in our fine china tea cups and delicious assorted cheesecakes. Due to not being able to have visitors indoors, we honored all mothers here with filled hearts, with an amazing Mother’s Day Parade. We welcomed special guests, Allegany Mayor Greg Pearl, COO of the Greater Olean Chamber of Commerce, Meme Yanetsko, and State Senator George Borello to host as judges, for the top three best decorated vehicles of loved ones that joined in on the parade. The smiles, anticipation to see loves ones, and excitement once they saw their families driving as well as our local law enforcement leading off the parade was simply amazing.

Residents celebrated May resident birthdays with a fun birthday party, as well as held our monthly Tea Party which is always one all look forward to. With assorted teas, the residents enjoy trying a new flavor every time! In honor of National Strawberry Day, our residents got quite the treat with homemade strawberry short cake, during our strawberry short cake social. We took advantage of the warmer weather on Memorial Day with a picnic on our patio with burgers, potato salad, a summer vegetable medley, watermelon and some refreshing lemonade and iced tea.

We took on the challenge of blending colors while creating a daisy masterpiece during our painting session with Jessica this month. One thing is for sure, we sure do love to paint in the Memory Care Household! Rock painting was quite a fun activity for us this month. We’re already brain storming what we can do during our next session! We had a competitive Senior Health and Fitness Day Wellness Challenge with our Wellness Coordinator, Rick with a Nerf Target shooting session. Its safe to say, many of the ladies have quite the shot, beating Rick by a landslide during the target shooting session!

Residents have enjoyed trying many new games such as Sketch, Bam!, Bean Bag Twister, Pictionary, as well as our favorites of Bingo, Bean Bag Toss, trivia, Catchphrase, Hangman, Finish the Saying, and even enjoyed taking a ride in the past. We enjoyed watching the Lawrence Welk Show and sang along to many of the recognizable tunes that were performed.

We were able to transfer some squash,¬†carrots, and peas to our outdoor garden this month and boy are they flourishing! Thanks to our green thumbs, we’re learning everyday the wonders of planting during our garden club.

We are looking forward to an eventful June with many more fun events to come. With Father’s Day coming up, and our outdoor pavilion almost complete, we are looking forward to many more outdoor events! If you have any questions or comments for upcoming activities, please contact Jessica Paprocki, Activities Director at (716)543-4200, extension 4215, or email at [email protected]
