The Magnolia at Frewsburg Rest Home March Look Back

March has been quite the month, full of unexpected twists and turns and changes for both residents and staff at The Rest Home. Although there have been several alterations to our daily lives during this unprecedented pandemic, we continued to make having fun and celebrations a top priority at The Magnolia!

We began the month of March by beginning our monthly Activity Challenge. The Activity Challenge is designed to motivate residents to attend activities by tracking their progress and allowing them to visually see how many they attend throughout the month. The goal is 30 activities a month, and those that meet that mark are awarded an incentive, which for March we chose a pizza party! Especially during this time where we are limited with what we can do outside of the community and with our families, it’s very important that we remain active and supported in our own Magnolia family. We are very much looking forward to continuing our Activity Challenge for April, and being treated with ice cream sundaes at the end of the month in our winner’s circle!

Earlier this month we welcomed Girl Scout Troop 20258 from Dunkirk to open a booth in our recreation room where they sold us over 30 delicious boxes of assorted cookies! During their afternoon here, they also lead a rock painting activity and assisted our folks with their artist talents. Thank you so much, Troop 20258!

One of our favorite activities that we enjoy is when we get together and socialize, and this month gave us many opportunities to do so! We had a karaoke and tea party to start us off, where both residents and staff belted out oldies tunes over coffee and tea and friendly company. We of course had to celebrate our March babies during our birthday party, and we definitely couldn’t forget about Saint Patrick’s Day! Our new bar (that was completely designed by hand by our Maintenance Supervisor, Mark) made it’s grand debut during our Saint Patty’s Day mixer, where we served non alcoholic beer and sparkling grape juice.

One of the things we look forward to each spring here at The Magnolia is our Senior Prom. We danced the night away, had delicious

refreshments of sparkling grape juice, non alcoholic beer, mini cheesecakes and our famous chocolate fondue fountain! Last years prom King and Queen Jeffrey and Josie passed down their reign to our new winners – Paul and Phyllis! We’re looking forward to our Spring Fling dance coming up next month where we can once again have another fun filled night full of dancing and good times with friends.

As March comes to a close, we think of our friends and families right now that are not able to see us, and are very eager to be able to reunite with them again. Please keep up to date with the latest news regarding Covid-19, and see what we’re up to at The Magnolia, by viewing our Facebook Page –  The Magnolia and Frewsburg.  Happy Easter and stay safe!
