Tanglewood Manor July Look Back

The month of July has been a great month for us at Tanglewood Manor, as we celebrated and welcomed summer in full swing! We started the month of July with a concert in the park featuring our very own Golden Gems performing in the Louis Ferreri Memorial Park! The Golden Gems put on a patriotic performance with memorable renditions of “America the Beautiful”, “Yankee Doodle”, and other classic favorites. After several years of rainy weather, our Gems were so excited to finally perform outside in our park!

We were blessed again with beautiful weather just in time to celebrate the Fourth of July. We indulged in delicious picnic food including grilled Sahlen’s hot dogs, potato salad, baked beans, deviled eggs, corn on the cob, and a delicious side of chips and strawberry shortcake! Our meal was a big hit with residents, staff, and family members alike-nobody was left hungry! To top it off, we ended our day honoring our country with a patriotic sing along.

W welcomed our favorite musical talents back to Tanglewood this month including the Larsen Family, KoKoMo Time, Lucille Shurkus, and Bart Peterson. The KoKoMo Time Band really rocked the house with music from all decades that got residents and staff up on their feet! KoKoMo welcomed the activity staff to lead the YMCA for the audience. We can’t wait to welcome them back in December!

Our outings this month included a trip to Aunt Millie’s Restaurant in Irving, NY, breakfast at Bob Evans, several shopping trips uptown, and a Mausoleum Tour at Lakeview Cemetery. Our tour guide Hugh showed us historical landmarks and mausoleums belonging to influential area residents throughout history. Some of our favorites included The Lady in the Glass Case, The Fenton Mausoleum, and of course-Lucille Ball!

With fun games like bingo, minute to win it, and social events July flew by before we had time for a rest! On a bittersweet note, Tanglewood Manor said see you later to our activities director, Jessica Paprocki as she moved on to bring her talents to the new campus, Field of Dreams in Olean, NY. Although she will be missed, there is no doubt the residents coming into their new homes in Olean will benefit from her presence as much as the residents at Tanglewood Manor have! We wish her luck as she moves on!

It is safe to say that is has been a great month here at Tanglewood Manor and we are ready to soak up every last minute of the summer as we welcome a very busy August!
